Mrs. Harrell Theater Teacher Mrs.Duncan Choir teacher

Two new teachers at Churchland High School, Mrs.Harrell and Mrs.Duncan, are starting the year off working hard to improve the visual arts.

Mrs.Duncan has been teaching for 21 years. She has a Bachelor's from Old Dominion in choral music, Master’s in Sacred Music, and she went to Asbury Seminary in Kentucky where she got a Master of Arts degree.

She taught at two middle schools in Norfolk before she came to work at school Churchland High School.

“My goal is 10 percent of the school population needs to be in choir, so my goal is 100 kids,” she said.

Mrs. Harrell has been teaching for 6 years. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theater Performance with a minor in Dance Performance and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Media & Performing Arts.

She taught college in Florida before she came to Churchland High School. She moved here because the U.S. Department of Education asked her if she could teach a Magnet art program in Virginia. Moving to Virginia from Florida was rough for her.

“I like the students very much. They have been my beacon of light in this ordeal.”

Mrs.Duncan and Mrs Harrell are both well-versed in the fine arts, which will help them achieve their goals.
